Lose-Weight Holiday Appetizers

With all the holiday parties coming up, most people find themselves needing to whip up at least one quick dish to bring to one party or another. Below are some of my easy low-point standbys—in fact, my mom and I make these three for Thanksgiving each year and we both lose weight! (Perhaps I should note that these are the only appetizers we make, so as not to be tempted by cheese, crackers, walnuts, etc.—walnuts are great, don’t get me wrong, just hard to stick to one serving for this girl!)

Easy Fruit Dip (1 PointsPlus® per half cup—yeah, that’s a lot!)

This one’s always a hit.

1 tub of fat free Cool Whip

1 tbsp light cream cheese (optional, for a thicker texture)*

Small pack sugar free, fat free Jello®, whichever flavor you like. I hear pistachio’s awesome, as is white chocolate. You can also do pina colada, but that one does have sugar, so it’ll increase the point value slightly. (It’s 8 PointsPlus® for the whole package—I’m sure you could get by without using the whole thing to decrease the points value.)

I love this with strawberries and grapes but other people also do kiwi, pineapple, apples, and whatever fruit they have on hand.

*adds slightly to points value

Veggie Tray (1 PointsPlus® per ¼ cup dip)

This one isn’t creative, but it sure keeps the points value low!

16 oz. fat free sour cream

1 packet ranch dip mix like Hidden Valley

I typically use carrots, cucumbers, red peppers, and orange peppers, but of course, feel free to use celery (I’d go organic on this for sure), mushrooms, green peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, or any other veggie!

Shrimp Cocktail Tray (2 PointsPlus® per ½ cup shrimp, 2 PointsPlus® per ¼ cup cocktail sauce)

Again, not creative, but low points. Dress up your tray with kale and lemons. Voila!
